Amazon.com: The Astrological Body Types Face, Form and Expression (Revised and Expanded Edition): 9780945685210: Judith A. Hill, Michael Theroux, Judith A. Hill: Books | ||
This is a great book with awesome illustrations of different sign and planetary types. There are many factors you can consider to find your overall dominant type. |
- Moon's sign (esp. in females)
- Ascending Sign
- Sign tenanted_____ by the planetary "ruler" ____ of the Ascending Sign _____
- Sun sign (beware of cusps, as people may look like the neighboring sign)
- The sign opposite ____ to the Sun Sign
- Planets nearest the Ascending degree, either side (conjunct)
- Any planet closely conjunct the planetary rule of the Ascendant ______ Sun ______ or Moon ______
- Any sign possessing two or more "personal" planets (i.e. Mercury, Venus, Mars)
- Any sign possessing a "stellium" of five or more planets
- Stationery planets: planet that appears to have no motion at birth, (mercury, venus and mars for 1 day, 1-3 days for slower planets) look at an ephemeris
- Dominant Element (look for at least two important indicators such as Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or ruler of Ascendant posited in one element)
- Dominant Mode (must be overt dominance)
A practical way to calculate it:
1. Give each factor a weight.
Strongest appearance indicators:
| Factor | Points |
|---|---|
| Ascendant sign | 5 |
| Planet conjunct Ascendant | 5 |
| Ruler of Ascendant’s sign | 4 |
| Moon sign | 4 |
| Sun sign | 3 |
| Sign opposite Sun | 2 |
| Planet conjunct Asc ruler, Sun, or Moon | 2–3 |
| Sign with 2+ personal planets | 3 |
| Stellium sign | 4–5 |
| Stationary planet’s sign/nature | 3 |
| Dominant element | 3 |
| Dominant mode | 2 |
2. Score signs, planets, elements, and modes separately.
For each item, add points to:
the sign involved
the element of that sign
the mode of that sign
the planetary archetype, especially if conjunct Ascendant or ruling Ascendant
Example format:
| Indicator | Placement | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Ascendant | Sagittarius | +5 Sagittarius / Fire / Mutable |
| Asc ruler Jupiter | Cancer | +4 Cancer / Water / Cardinal |
| Moon | Sagittarius | +4 Sagittarius / Fire / Mutable |
| Sun | Scorpio | +3 Scorpio / Water / Fixed |
| Venus conjunct Asc | Sagittarius | +5 Venus + Sagittarius |
3. Look for dominance.
The outcome is usually the top 2–3 repeated signatures, not just one sign.
For example:
Sagittarius + Fire + Mutable → tall/long-limbed, animated, expressive, open face, sporty or casual style.
Venus strongly involved → beauty, softness, symmetry, pleasing proportions, aesthetic presentation.
Water signs repeating → roundness, softness, moist/glowing eyes, emotional expressiveness.
Saturn/Capricorn strong → angularity, bone structure, thinness, seriousness, maturity.
Mars/Aries strong → muscularity, redness, sharpness, athletic look, scars or strong features.
4. Prioritize what is closest to the Ascendant.
A planet within about 5° of the Ascendant often overrides the sign.
So Venus rising may look more Venusian than the Asc sign. Mars rising may look more Martian. Saturn rising may look more Saturnian.
5. Final synthesis formula:
You could write it like:
Physical appearance = Ascendant sign + planet on Ascendant + Ascendant ruler’s sign + Moon/Sun reinforcement + dominant element/mode + any repeated planetary signatures.
So instead of saying “this person looks like Scorpio,” you might say:
“The strongest appearance blend is Sagittarius–Venus–Water: an open, expressive, long-bodied Sagittarian look softened by Venusian beauty and Water-sign emotional softness.”
That’s the cleanest way to make Judith Hill’s list usable.
- Moon's sign: SAGITTARIUS
- Ascending Sign: SAGITTARIUS
- Sign tenanted__CANCER___ by the planetary "ruler" __JUPITER__ of the Ascending Sign __SAG___
- Sun sign (beware of cusps, as people may look like the neighboring sign): SCORPIO CUSP WITH LIBRA
- The sign opposite _TAURUS___ to the Sun Sign (SCORPIO)
- Planets nearest the Ascending degree, either side (conjunct): MOON, VENUS, MARS
- Any planet closely conjunct the planetary rule of the Ascendant ___MOON, VENUS, MARS___ Sun ______ or Moon ___VENUS, MARS___
- Any sign possessing two or more "personal" planets (i.e. Mercury, Venus, Mars) VENUS AND MARS IN SAGITTARIUS
- Any sign possessing a "stellium" of five or more planets: NONE
- Stationery planets: NONE
- Dominant Element (look for at least two important indicators such as Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or ruler of Ascendant posited in one element): WATER, THEN FIRE
- Dominant Mode (must be overt dominance): MUTABLE
LOOKS LIKE I AM A SAGITTARIUS TYPE (AND MUTABLE)
Your appearance signature is strong Sagittarius rising, softened and rounded by Cancer/Jupiter/Water, with a noticeable Venus-Mars-Moon glow near the Ascendant.
Main blend: Sagittarius + Cancer/Water + Venus/Mars/Moon
You likely read as expressive, animated, warm, humorous, approachable, and emotionally responsive. Sagittarius rising plus Sagittarius Moon, Venus, and Mars gives a “big presence” quality: open face, lively gestures, strong laugh/smile, movement in the body, and a youthful or spirited look even with age.
The Moon, Venus, and Mars near the Ascendant are huge. The Moon adds softness, roundness, emotional visibility, changeability, and expressive eyes. Venus adds attractiveness, charm, symmetry, aesthetic taste, and a desire to look pleasing. Mars adds heat, vitality, redness, boldness, and a more athletic or forceful edge.
Your Ascendant ruler Jupiter in Cancer shifts the Sagittarian look away from purely lean/horse-like/fire-sign and toward softer, fuller, more lunar, more maternal, more protective, more curvy or cushioned. Cancer/Jupiter can enlarge the Moon/Venus qualities: softness, breasts/chest, belly, round cheeks, luminous eyes, and a nurturing presence.
Your Sun in Scorpio near Libra adds contrast: underneath the friendly Sag/Moon/Venus presentation, there may be a more private, intense, watchful, magnetic quality. The Libra cusp adds aesthetic awareness and facial harmony; Scorpio adds depth, dark eyes/intensity, and a “don’t underestimate me” undertone.
The Taurus opposite-Sun factor reinforces Venusian/body themes: sensuality, texture, comfort, strong neck/throat/voice symbolism, and a more earthy, substantial beauty rather than a fragile one.
So I’d summarize your type as:
The warm Sagittarian storyteller with Venus-Moon softness, Mars spark, and Cancerian/Jupiterian fullness — friendly, expressive, curvy/lunar, sensual, emotionally visible, and more intense than first impressions suggest.
The dominant Mutable mode suggests your appearance and style may shift a lot by mood, weight, health, hormones, confidence, or environment. You may not have one fixed “look”; you may look noticeably different across eras of your life.
