Full Moon in Libra Lunar Eclipse

The full moon at 14 degrees Libra on Saturday April 4th is also a partial lunar eclipse.

"This Spring is going to be an active one when it comes to the magical power of eclipses. Exactly two weeks after your beautiful New Moon in Pisces solar eclipse, we are seeing a lovely Full Moon in Libra lunar eclipse that presents another game changing option for you. This one activates some more Uranus square Pluto action so if you have been needing a transformation in your relationships, this is when it should happen this year. For some, there will be unexpected surprises that you can’t control. For others, you will be in the captain’s seat of striking out anything that does not serve you. This will be a period of transformation, and because it is an eclipse, that means its effects will be experienced for many months to come."

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Libra: April 4, 2015 – This is a big one (and may be nasty) Elsa

My post on eclipses

You can always look at "This Week in Astrology" at Cafe Astrology to see if there is a significant lunation in the week.

What Sign is the Moon in?

First we can consider the sign that the Moon is in, in general.  The moon changes sign about every 2.5 days, taking a lunar month to traverse the sky and our charts.
http://www.cafeastrology.com/whenthemoonisin.html
When the Moon is in Libra
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.

Eclipse in Libra

Libra: marriage, time to rest, meditate

Libra Full Moon

When the moon is full in Libra, it can be about "befriending the enemy."

Full Moon for your Sun or Rising Sign

http://www.astrology.com/full-moon-horoscopes/2-d-d-564091 (this link was specific to a different full moon though)

Look at both, but preferrably your Rising sign.  For me, my Sun is in Scorpio and my Rising is Sagittarius:

Scorpio & Scorpio Rising
"Consider" comes from the Latin "consīderāre", meaning to observe, or go with the stars. For thousands of years, we considered that what was above reflected what was below. Thousands. Now horoscopes are one of the most popular things to read and yet astrology itself is generally seen as archaic superstition. Astrology is seen this way in part because it is easily disproved by science and that is because it isn’t one. It’s a meditation; a contemplation and, yes, it hopefully gives us pause long enough to consider what our next right action could be...
Sagittarius & Sagittarius Rising
Remember all the creative brilliance that I was waxing poetic about last week? Well this is the week for its manifestation. Bearing in mind that creativity is born out of chaos, this week could feel like an out of control science experiment or just the right amount of wowzas. It’s not all happening on the external plane though...

What is happening at the lunations?

Every new moon (and full moon) is different because it falls in a different sign.  When the moon is new it is in the same sign as the Sun because, by definition, they are conjunct and the moon is between the earth and the sun.  When the moon is full it is in the opposite sign from the Sun because, by definition, they are the farthest from each other, with the earth between them.

What is happening at a lunar eclipse?

  1. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth's shadow blocks all the Sun's light from directly reaching the Moon's surface. Eclipses of theMoon happen when the Sun, Earth and Moon are aligned to form an almost or exact straight line.

What house is the full moon in your chart?

So an important thing to consider is the house in your natal chart where the lunation is falling, as well as any planets that might be nearby.

So you will need to look at your chart.  I recommend pulling it up at http://astro.com (use the free extended charts, natal and transits option) or you can order from me.

Here is the section of my chart showing the Moon opposing the Sat. 4/4:

Not sure what all those glyphs (symbols) mean?

So for me, the moon falls in my 10th house (which is also where it was last time).  You can look up the meaning here, among other places: Full Moon in the Houses

Example
Full Moon in the Tenth House
You are suddenly in the limelight--everyone notices you now. It's time to put your best foot forward, but be sure to do so with grace and consideration for others, or you may just make a display that you regret later. Perhaps you've been hiding yourself away, taking it easy. Now you need a little attention, and career matters come to a head. You're called to perform, perhaps on a moment's notice, and it's best to keep your cool and do whatever you can to show your competence. A sudden job opportunity, or some form of assistance with regards to career, home, or property matters, could be part of the picture. This can also produce an event that requires you to take charge and show your responsible side.
From the New Moon, through the First Quarter Moon until the Full Moon, the moon is said to be waxing, which means the light is increasing.  From the Full Moon, through the Last Quarter Moon until the next New Moon, the moon is said to be waning, or reducing in light.

Be a Closet Astrologer

"While the sun and moon are in the same energetic sign at a new moon, they are in opposite ones at the full moon. We feel this tension, but it's also a time of fruition and manifestation of the intentions we set at the previous new moon. We've been working with that intent, perhaps that we made about our closet, but now we have a chance to integrate it in a deeper way. Now we are ready to move from blueprint to building the house. We have planned out our new closet organizational design, purchased the hangars and shelves, and now we are ready to take the action of putting it all together.  While we created symbolic imagery at the new moon, we may want to make a more three dimensional expression at the full moon. This could be an altar or it could be making your closet into an altar!"

When the Moon is Full in Virgo, we are oriented towards organization, and you should see some of your intentions set at the previous new moon come to fruition. Take a look at what you wrote about, designed or imagined (or made images of) at that time. What have you or can you put into action?

Becoming more self-aware

Our rising sign or ascendant is what people first see or their first impression of us, but we may be fairly unconscious of what we are putting out there, because of course we cannot see ourselves, except in the mirror or in reflections through the feedback of others.  Most of us don't really like to view ourselves on tape or hear our voice on a recording, because we aren't full self-aware or it feels uncomfortable.  Here are some thoughts I learned at a recent training by Gary Lorentzen on this subject.

To learn what you are projecting and to be more self-aware

Ascendant signs greatest need for awareness, what they may be lacking most also:

  • ARIES: needs to be self-aware (ruled by Mars)
  • TAURUS: needs to have self-worth (ruled by Venus)
  • GEMINI: needs self-understanding, learning through communicating (ruled by Mercury)
  • CANCER: needs self-nurturing (ruled by the Moon)
  • LEO: needs creative self-expression (ruled by the Sun)
  • VIRGO: self-critical, needs to adjust self to reality (ruled by Mercury)
  • LIBRA: to find balance between personal and social/relationship
  • SCORPIO: needs to unite with others and to be open to being changed by others (ruled by Mars and Pluto)
  • SAGITTARIUS: needs to understand the culture and society they are in and to be more open-minded (ruled by Jupiter)
  • CAPRICORN: needs to be successful and accomplished (ruled by Saturn)
  • AQUARIUS:  needs to be both independent and socially involved (ruled by Uranus)
  • PISCES: needs to have faith in yourself and others, to be trusting and trustworthy (ruled by Jupiter and Neptune)

What behavior would best make that happen?

Look to the Ruling Planet of the Ascendant Sign:

  • Sun (ruling Leo): wants to be confident and self-assured
  • Moon (ruling Cancer): wants to be nurturing, being willing to change and emotionally intelligent
  • Mercury (ruling Gemini and Virgo): wants to be communicative, flexible, intelligent, using common sense
  • Venus (ruling Taurus): wants to be loving, affectionate, grateful, charming, social and artistic
  • Mars (ruling Aries and Scorpio): wants to be assertive, energetic, physical, direct and upfront
  • Jupiter (ruling Sagittarius and Pisces): wants to be educated, cultured, well traveled, philosophical, spiritual/religious
  • Saturn (ruling Capricorn): wants to be disciplined, organized, achievement oriented, self-sufficient
  • Uranus (ruling Aquarius): wants to be individualized, unique, ingenious, socially conscious, innovative, non-conforming, revolutionary
  • Neptune (ruling Pisces): wants to be spiritual, inspired and inspiring, caring and compassionate
  • Pluto (ruling Scorpio): wants to be transformative, intensely interested in things, is either calm and self-controlled or destructive

What do you need in order to have the best behavior?

What is the sign of that ruling planet?
Look again at the list of sign needs above, this time for the Ruling planet of the Ascendant.

What life experiences and activities will help make the behavior happen?

What house is the Ruling planet falling in?
What do we need to experience?
  • First House: experiencing one's persona
  • Second House: experiencing one's resources and talents
  • Third House: communicating and learning
  • Fourth House: seeing and feeling most yourself, experiencing your personal identity
  • Fifth House: personal expression of who we truly are, being most comfortable
  • Sixth House: habits that sustain yourself, bridging self and others
  • Seventh House: partnering, relating to others, how you see others
  • Eighth House: capacity for being intimate, resulting from your partnering in 7th
  • Ninth House: finding meaning, understanding culture and your place in it, spirituality
  • Tenth House: contributing, activities that develop your social role, identity and reputation
  • Eleventh House: being in community, participating by using your role to contribute and cooperate
  • Twelfth House: trusting in fellow humans, transcending the ego and paranoia, capacity for compassion and sympathy

Is this intensified by any Rising Planets

Are there any Rising Planets?
Look  at any Rising Planets which will add their energy.

What are the modifications of behavior?

Are there aspects to the ruling planet?
Trines and sextiles would of course be supportive, while squares would be challenging, etc.

Example

My Chart:

My Rising Sign is Sagittarius, with Ruling Planet of Jupiter in Cancer in 7th house, part of a Grand Trine.

  • SAGITTARIUS Rising: needs to understand the culture and society they are in and to be more open-minded (ruled by Jupiter)
  • Jupiter (ruling Sagittarius and Pisces): wants to be educated, cultured, well traveled, philosophical, spiritual/religious
  • CANCER: needs to be self-nurturing
  • Seventh House: partnering, relating to others, how you see others
  • Grand Trine Water: emotional connections, fluid, perhaps lacking boundaries
  • Rising Planets:
  • Moon: wants to be nurturing, being willing to change and emotionally intelligent
  • Venus: wants to be loving, affectionate, grateful, charming, social and artistic
  • Mars (ruling Aries and Scorpio): wants to be assertive, energetic, physical, direct and upfront

New Moon in Pisces, Solar Eclipse on Spring Equinox, Friday March 20th

Get ready for a significant day, this Friday, March 20, 2015, when we will have a New Moon at 29 degrees Pisces that is also a total Solar Eclipse, falling on the Spring Equinox.  There is actually a Stellium in Pisces at that time, with Neptune, Mercury and Chiron transiting the same sign at that time as well.

  • New Moon. The Moon will be directly between the Earth and the Sun and will not be visible from Earth. This phase occurs at 09:36 UTC (Universal Coordinated Time, or GMT), which is 2:36 AM PST.
  • Total Solar Eclipse. A total solar eclipse occurs when the moon completely blocks the Sun, revealing the Sun's outer atmosphere known as the corona.
  • March Equinox. The March equinox occurs at 22:45 UTC 9:57 AM PST. There will be nearly equal length of day and night.  This is the first day of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere (or fall in Southern).
  • Look for personal planets in your chart
  • 25-29 Pisces, Virgo, Gemini, Sag
  • 0-4 Aries, Libra, Cancer or Cap

March 20, 2015: New Moon in Pisces and Solar Eclipse
"The New Moon in Pisces that falls on March 20, 2015, is also a solar eclipse. This is your first truly beautiful gift from the universe in 2015, as it offers so much potential. Eclipses are game changers! If you need a complete 180 in your life, spend the first three months of the year tying up the loose ends you need to do it. By the time the solar eclipse comes around in March, you will be ready to eclipse all that you need to eclipse OUT of your life. Again, we will go into more detailed action plans for you down the road when this event is about to occur. For now, all you need to know is to put this date on the calendar, and start really thinking over the next few months about what game changing moments you want, and need, in your life this year. YOU have all the power! What do YOU want to eclipse out of your life this year? Making that room creates room for miracles! Time to start thinking about it! "

What house will the new moon fall into on your chart?

You can always look at "This Week in Astrology" at Cafe Astrology to see if there is a significant lunation in the week.

What sign is the Moon in?

First we can consider the sign that the Moon is in.  The moon changes sign about every 2.5 days, taking a lunar month to traverse the sky and our charts.

When the Moon is in Pisces
"Shy and retiring, with a fondness for luxury beauty and change. There can be misfortunes when the Moon is in Pisces, which can make one feel very disillusioned and self indulgent. Eclipses are harbinger of major events that will occur in our lives. Usually dramatic and irreversible eclipses are wild cards that bring changes for good or altering changes that put us on another course entirely! Pay attention to where the eclipse happens in your chart. As they typically foretell of major events that will happen to us, a marriage, divorce, a birth of a child, a death, a job change or a major move, people have shunned them or felt frightened of them." Terry Nazon
When the Eclipse is in Pisces
Pisces: depression, oceans, lack of boundaries, mysticism, sleepy, meditation

Setting Your New Moon intention when there is an Eclipse

Normally we want to set our intentions for the next month on the New Moon or just after it becomes exact, watching to not do it when the moon is void of course.  When there is an eclipse we want to wait about 48 hours because the energy is intensified.  You may want to wait until we feel more grounded, March 22 6:48 am until March 23 10:25 am EST.

"This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere."

What's happening at a Solar Eclipse?

Total eclipses occur when the Moon lines up with the Sun exactly.

What house is this moon occuring in for your natal chart?

So an important thing to consider is the house in your natal chart where the lunation is falling, as well as any planets that might be nearby.

So you will need to look at your chart.  I recommend pulling it up at http://astro.com (use the free extended charts, natal and transits option) or you can order from me.

Here is the section of my chart showing the Moon (conjunct the Sun) on 3/20:

Sun and Moon conjunct at the end of my 3rd house

Not sure what all those glyphs (symbols) mean?

So for me, the moon falls in my 3rd house.  You can look up the meaning here, among other places: New Moon in the Houses and Solar Eclipse in the Houses (see more links earlier)

Example
New Moon in the Third House
The third house rules our communication skills, learning, methods, daily interactions and contact, and general "busy-ness". This is a favorable time for learning something new, feeling at ease in social situations, taking care of the details of daily life, and developing a mental rapport with others. It is a time when you will be more aware of your environment, and when you experience increased alertness. It's a good time to take tests, fill out forms, start a new course, write letters, make phone calls, and take care of daily tasks with energy.
Solar Eclipse in Third House

The focus is on intellectual and communicative needs. Self-satisfaction is likely to be achieved through learning and teaching - not always in the areas of teaching in the professional sense, but teaching by outwardly articulating ideas and knowledge in conversation or in written form. Intellectual pursuit might take on various forms, and the effort is rewarded with a increased aware of the personal environment.

From the New Moon, through the First Quarter Moon until the Full Moon, the moon is said to be waxing, which means the light is increasing.  From the Full Moon, through the Last Quarter Moon until the next New Moon, the moon is said to be waning, or reducing in light.

Balsamic Moon: 10 ½ days after the Full Moon, up to the New Moon, or 2.5 days before.  So we are entering the Balsamic Phase soon.  "If this is your Moon phase, you see in the dark. You're at home when enveloped in mysteries, especially the ultimate mystery - death. Your life purpose is to tie up loose ends, and create a nutrient-rich environment for the new to germinate."

Be a Closet Astrologer

The magical energy of the new moon is for setting new intentions. You can use it to commit to new ways you are going to be creative or develop something new in your life. You can use this time to dream your closet. What do you want to fill it with? What do you want to draw in to you? How is your closet feeling energetically for you? is it supporting you? What is needed to enhance this? This is a great time to build your pinterest boards, create polyvores or even make photoshop collages or paper ones.

Since this new moon is in Pisces, this may also be a time to meditate on your experience with your colors and wardrobe.  Be aware that you will be leaning towards your more luxurious tastes.  You may also be feeling a bit disillusioned with the process of working with your closet.

The magical energy of an eclipse is for releasing things from your life, so this is also a time to cull your closet to make room for the new.
