May 19, 2015 to June 11, 2015: Mercury Retrograde in Gemini
"The last major transit in the first half of the year of the 2015 astrological forecast is the Mercury retrograde in Gemini that occurs between May 19, 2015 and June 11, 2015. Again, Mercury retrograde is going to be providing you with confusion and delays in areas that Mercury rules. These include, short journeys, communications, communication devices, travel plans, anything that requires or needs the delivery of messages. Gemini is ruled by Mercury making this retrograde all the more intense!

The only way you can prevent mishaps from happening to you in this one is just by being prepared. I’ve seen everything from car accidents to computer crashes to flights getting cancelled under this transit, so make your list, and check it twice, and, put on your happy face for when inevitable challenges or delays arrive. Remember what I said about balance. The best news about uncomfortable news is that it is only temporary, and Universe rewards karma to those that put on a happy face down the road. So, if you experience communication or message problems in this period, know that the sunny side is the way to handle it if you want miracles to eventually come your way."

Mercury Retrograde in Gemini

Here's a bit of a downer about this transit, don't freak out!
"Gemini is the house of communication. When Mercury goes retrograde in this house a sort of fluid situation is reached where hell breaks lose in matters of communication. All judgements made during this time would be vague and unclear. Frustrations creep in as all ambitions and plans are put to the back burner. Those more likely to suffer are those directly dealing with people like salespersons, lawyers, advisors and consultants. This is a good time to take a vacation or go in for a massage or a time to chill out with friends."

What house in your natal chart is Mercury turning around in?

But the most important thing to consider is the houses in your natal chart that contain the retrograde, as well as any planets that might be within the degree span.

mapping Mercury retrograde in my chart

In my chart, this Mercury retrograde begins in my 6th house but also turns direct still in my 6th house.  You can look up yours and the meaning here, among other places:

Mercury Stationary Retrograde in 6th: House The next three weeks could easily throw some kinks into your schedule and make your routine suddenly non-routine. You have the opportunity now to iron out the wrinkles that may have been bothering you but which were somehow still left unattended. You may be wise to put great leaps forward temporarily on the backburner until you are sure there is nothing to trip you up along your way when you make your moves. This may result in coming to some re-conclusions about how and with whom you deploy your creative juices. Listen to that inner voice to make sure you heard it right, then get back into gear.

Mercury Stationary Direct in 6th House: Hectic reduplication, delays, and scheduling confusions will be straightening themselves out after a few weeks of necessary resorting. All that remains is to put the finishing touches on new approaches and link them all up with others who may be involved. Missed or mixed up messages are resented or clarified so everybody is back on the same page and agrees upon what the next step is going to be. A general sense of well-being supplants a certain unease born of uncertainty and you get back to your healthy glow born of knowing where you've been and focus on where you're going.

Happy New Moon, Monday April 18th, 26 degrees Taurus

The moon will be New on Monday. May 18th at 26 degrees Taurus, and the Sun enters Gemini three days later, but what will this mean for you?

You can always look at "This Week in Astrology" at Cafe Astrology to see if there is a significant lunation in the week.

What sign is the Moon in?

First we can consider the sign that the Moon is in.  The moon changes sign about every 2.5 days, taking a lunar month to traverse the sky and our charts.

Moon in Taurus
"We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses". Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence. The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor."

Setting Your New Moon intention

Working with new moon energy:

What is happening at the lunations?

Every new moon (and full moon) is different because it falls in a different sign.  When the moon is new it is in the same sign as the Sun because, by definition, they are conjunct and the moon is between the earth and the sun.  When the moon is full it is in the opposite sign from the Sun because, by definition, they are the farthest from each other, with the earth between them.

"This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere."

Elsa points out that Mars is very near the Sun Moon conjunction.

What house is this moon occurring in for your natal chart?

So an important thing to consider is the house in your natal chart where the lunation is falling, as well as any planets that might be nearby.

So you will need to look at your chart.  I recommend pulling it up at (use the free extended charts, natal and transits option) or you can order from me.

Here is the section of my chart showing the Moon (conjunct the Sun) on 5/18:

Not sure what all those glyphs (symbols) mean?

So for me, the moon falls on the cusp of my 5th and 6th house.  You can look up the meaning here, among other places: New Moon in the Houses

New Moon in the Fifth House Creative self-expression comes under the realm of the fifth house, and a New Moon occurring here sparks the creative juices. Romantic inclinations are also highlighted, as are any kind of celebratory, playful, and just-for-fun endeavors. You will be especially aware of your need for approval and feedback from others, deriving pleasure from the ways your own creativity impact the world around you. This can be a passionate time for you, and a time when you might feel more bold than usual. If you are feeling good about yourself, and especially if you have taken advantage of the time for re-building of confidence that the New Moon in the fourth house brought, you will fairly radiate during this expressive period. New Moon in the Sixth House The New Moon in the sixth house heralds a time when new diet regimes, healthy routines, and satisfying work schedules can be successfully initiated. It is a time of taking care of business, handling details, and increasing your efficiency by re-organizing or simply by working enthusiastically at tasks that help you get caught up in your work. It is also a good time for analysis of any sort, as critical thinking is now at its peak. This period is marked by a desire to sort things out, but also to be useful.
Taurus  New Moon in the Houses:

Taurus in the Fifth House: (House of Leo and the Sun) This is the house of following your blisss -- with Taurus here, you find beauty in spontaneity, that’s paired with real artisan skills. Is it time to invest in your own native talents? A love affair that starts now can be a celebration of the senses. If you’re stressed, come back to that pulse of play, and seeing where your vibe of happy takes you. A practical focus to do with your children (or those you work with) can come to the fore. You shine when demonstrating simple pleasure of being in a body on Earth, enjoying what’s in season. Moving Matter: New playmates; physical affection; unscheduled days to explore; spontaneous acts; being heart-led. Taurus New Moon in the Sixth House: (House of Virgo and Mercury or Chiron) A re-set here can address your health or the instincts of your inner healer. You could get flashes that tweaks big or small are necessary, in how your life is set up, to bring more ease, and less dis-ease. This house is about refinements to the whole self as a system. Here you catch sight of what’s working and what’s not. This house also relates to the community and doing your bit for the common good. You could become aware of satisfying ways to help others toward richer, more wholesome lives.

From the New Moon, through the First Quarter Moon until the Full Moon, the moon is said to be waxing, which means the light is increasing.  From the Full Moon, through the Last Quarter Moon until the next New Moon, the moon is said to be waning, or reducing in light.

Balsamic Moon: 10 ½ days after the Full Moon, up to the New Moon, or 2.5 days before.  So we are entering the Balsamic Phase soon.  "If this is your Moon phase, you see in the dark. You're at home when enveloped in mysteries, especially the ultimate mystery - death. Your life purpose is to tie up loose ends, and create a nutrient-rich environment for the new to germinate."

Be a Closet Astrologer

"The magical energy of the new moon is for setting new intentions. You can use it to commit to new ways you are going to be creative or develop something new in your life. You can use this time to dream your closet. What do you want to fill it with? What do you want to draw in to you? How is your closet feeling energetically for you? is it supporting you? What is needed to enhance this? This is a great time to build your pinterest boards, create polyvores or even make photoshop collages or paper ones."
