On January 27th, the Moon is New for the first time in 2017. The Sun and Moon are conjunct at 8 degrees Aquarius, which is represented by Pink Diamonds (keyword Impact). What is happening at the lunations?

When the moon is new it is in the same sign as the Sun because, by definition, they are conjunct and the moon is between the earth and the sun. When the moon is full it is in the opposite sign from the Sun because, by definition, they are the farthest from each other, with the earth between them.
